乾隆十八臂观音象牙雕

“乾隆年制”款，此观音为象牙制成，端坐于莲花宝座之上，面相丰腴，神态安详，双目微睁，高高的发髻上又饰有一小佛像。每个手中各拿一件法器，有宝剑、伞盖、念珠、法轮、海螺等等。胸前垂挂璎络，身披天衣，衣纹清晰流畅。观音造像选材讲究，雕琢工艺精湛细腻，底书：“乾隆年制”款，为标准的乾隆宫廷造像。北京故宫博物院收藏有一尊象牙雕十六臂观音像，为清代中期的作品，此类作品与故宫博物院作品几乎同出一辙，皆雕琢精湛，刀法线条既含蓄又刚劲，人物肌圆骨润，呈现出柔和的曲线，极富乾隆宫廷造像的美感。

Qianlong Eighteen-Arm Guanyin Ivory Carving

A “Qianlong Year System” model, this Guanyin is made of ivory, sitting on the lotus throne. The face is plump, the facial expression is serene, the eyes are slightly open and on top of the high hairdress is another small Buddha statue. Each hand holds a different piece of instrument, including a sword, an umbrella cover, a rosary, a Falun, a conch, and so on. Hanging on the chest is a ‘keyura’ ornament, body covered in a cloak, the cloak is clear and smooth. The materials used to fabricate the Guanyin statue is carefully selected, the craftmanship exquisite and intricately detailed. The bottom states that this is a “Qianlong Year System” model and is a standard Qian Long court statue. The Beijing Palace Museum also has a 16-armed Guanyin ivory statue in its collection. It is a work of the mid-Qing Dynasty. This 18-arm Ivory Guan Yin statue is almost identical to that in the Beijing Palace Museum. They are both exquisitely and skillfully carved, the carving strokes a perfect balance of subtlety and strength. The figures are smooth and curvy, full of soft lines and a good representation of the beauty of the Qian Long court statues.
